Just watched the Passion of Christ, the show with a whole lot of publicity ( both negative and positive ). It was thought provoking to say the least. At the basic level, it is a very vivid portrayal of the suffering that Jesus went through, (too vivid if you ask me, at certain points, i just couldn't bear to watch.) at another level, it shows me the true nature of humans, that humans will demonize things / people that they do not agree with / understand or are just plain different, for is that not what is happening to islam presently? mention islam, and there will be people who will immediately conjure up images of terrorists? Even though not every one is like this, the overwhelming majority are. its just that they have learn how to say the things that people expect them to say, and not say what they truly believe.
Another thought that was provoked by scenes from the movie was from the scenes where Jesus was punished (?) and tortured by his captors. The acting of the gaolers convinced me of one thing. Everyone has a function to fulfill in society, even those sadistic people who enjoy inflicting pain on others. They are the people who fulfill the role of the dealers of physical punishment, they are those who will still be able to live with themselves after beating a man to near death. i know i won't be able to do it and still sleep at night, even when i know that the man was guilty.
Another thing that caught my attention was this, Jesus said that to love your friends is easy, but to love your enemies is what is truly worthy. ( note: i am paraphrasing because i can't remember the exact words) and i realise that it is true, to love friends is easy, too easy in fact, it is only when you are able to love someone whom has done you wrong, who bears you ill will, that you are truly amazing. If everyone strives to achieves this simple concept, i'm sure there will be less strife in the whole world.
Even though i am not a Christian, i do admire the teachings of the Christian Faith. And i also admire the teachings of other religions such as islam and Buddhism as well. for essentially, these religions are just trying to better the world through their teachings. i believe in their aims but not in the way they try to achieve their aims. For humans have this tendencies to manipulate things to their own ends. which is one very disappointing aspect of humanity.
