A friend suggested that i dig up one of my old writings and post it here. Thinking "hey, that sounds like a great idea", i went to dig out the scrap of paper on which it was written. Now i'm going to describe the conditions that led to the following piece of work. I was in JC then, and i was doing an exam, can't remember which one. It was mind numbingly easy, and i finished with plenty of time to spare. Not wanting to appear over confident by leaving early, i decided to hang around. There really isn't much to do in an examination hall, i did the normal stuff, i checked my work, i glanced around, mentally made fun of the invigilators, etc. Then i picked up a pencil and began to doodle a little and eventually i got down to write some stuff down, amazingly the words just came naturally to me, and i wrote a short poem(?) in the time that i had. So here goes, a product of the Singapore Education system and my boredom.
*erhem*
Dreams
I dream of rolling hills,
and of green pastures,
the foilage of the great forests,
and the deep blue oceans.
And I dream of being an eagle
So i can fly over the hills,
soar over the green pastures,
rest in the great forests,
and fish in the deep blue oceans
Or i could be a wolf,
Now i can climb the hills,
run free on the green pastures,
Hunt in the great forests,
And gaze at the deep blue oceans.
But i am neither, i am human.
who flattens the hills,
builds upon the green pastures,
levels the great forests,
and drowns the deep blue oceans.
Writing this down has made me realised one thing, it is not as great as i think it was. It was better, the way i remembered it.
